The Guardian has quoted Justice Abroad’s Michael Polak in an article on the Mehul Choksi kidnapping from Antigua and his unlawful rendition to the Commonwealth of Dominica.

In May 2021, Mr Choksi was lured into a canal side villa in Jolly Harbour, Antigua, where he was beaten and attacked with a stun gun then forced on to a boat which took him out to sea where he was transferred on to a yacht which took him to the Commonwealth of Dominica against his will.  During the trip, Mr Choksi was threatened to not disclose what had happened to him and when the boat arrived in Dominica he was kept in the cells of a police station where he was denied access to a lawyer. A private jet arrived in Dominica and the  Dominican authorities sought to have Mr Choksi sign a document agreeing to return to India whilst continuing to deny him access to a lawyer and holding him unlawfully over the constitutional limit.

After Dominican DJ Loftus Durand  broke the story with news that Mr Choksi had been brought to the island, Mr Choksi's team made an application of habeas corpus. At this point  the Dominican authorities brought a criminal case against him for unlawful entry, which they later dropped confirming his account of being kidnapped and forced into their jurisdiction. The Antiguan Police found a prime facie case of kidnapping and named the group alleged to have been involved.

In the Guardian Article, Michael Polak stated,

“The evidence that Mr Choksi was kidnapped from Antigua and tortured during his unlawful rendition to Dominica is clear. It has been a long road to get to this point, and we continue to fight to secure justice for Mr Choksi.”
