Justice Abroad Represents Scottish Teenager in Pursuit of Justice for Rape and Sexual Assault whilst on Holiday in Cyprus in 2019
Justice Abroad has been instructed to assist a Scottish teenager who has reported being raped and sexually assaulted whilst on holiday in Cyprus in 2019 when she was 17 years old. The teenager reported the offences to the Cypriot Police and thought that they would proceed with an investigation and prosecution of the perpetrator however after returning to Scotland she was told that the investigation would not proceed. The offences were also reported to the Scottish Police who took statements from the teenager and other witnesses.
Justice Abroad’s Michael Polak, who has been instructed by the Scottish teenager, also represents the English teenager found guilty of public nuisance in Cyprus after reporting a gang rape in Ayia Napa whose case is being appealed to the Cypriot Supreme Court. Justice Abroad will be pursuing all avenues to achieve justice for the Scottish teenager.
This case has been reported in the Daily Record on 25 October 2020 https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/scots-teen-fights-justice-after-22901011
It has also been reported by the Daily Record on Sunday 18 October 2020 that Scottish expert rape counsellor and manager of the well-regarded Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis Centre Isabelle Kerr MBE and former detective and sexual violence expert Alison Eaton have travelled to Cyprus to provide a training package to the Cypriot Police in regards to dealing with sexual offences and to look into the possibility of opening Cyprus’s first rape referral centre.
Justice Abroad’s Michael Polak stated the following
‘this is a worrying case involving serious allegations of rape and sexual assault against a teenager. Those who report these types of crimes need to be dealt with professionally and with sensitivity. Justice Abroad will be fighting for justice for the Scottish teenager within all available forums and hope that the Cypriot authorities will take action.
We welcome the Cypriot authorities’ acceptance of training to be provided by top experts in the field of sexual violence following international criticism they have faced regarding the Ayia Napa case. We have always said that as well as being in the interests of the victims of sexual offences it is also in the interests of Cyprus that these types of crimes are investigated properly.’
The Scottish teenager is funding her pursuit of justice through donations through Go Fund Me fund (https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-scottish-17-yo-victim-get-justice-in-cyprus) and it thankful for any support that can be provided.
