Daughter of our Client David Hunter Gives Heartbreaking Interview About Death of Her Mother and Her Father’s Murder Case in Cyprus

Justice Abroad is instructed to represent Mr David Hunter, a 74-year-old British man facing murder charges in Cyprus and is working with Cypriot lawyer Nicoletta Charalambidou, an experienced human rights advocate, and Ritsa Pekri, a criminal law expert on this case.

David Hunter and Janice Hunter’s daughter has given a heart-breaking interview to The Daily Mail which was published on 24 February 2022.

Lesley shared the following story about the relationship between her parents.

‘When they first met in Ashington, Northumberland, as teenagers, David thought Janice was 'the most beautiful girl in town. He always said that from the moment he saw her, he never looked at another woman. They laughed together, always had something to say to each other; they never left one another's side.’

Lesley went on to state that:

“Dad is a good man. He doesn't deserve to die on his own in a foreign prison. He is so lonely. After 56 years with Mum, it's like missing a limb.

In regard to her mother Lesley explained that ‘Her sister, Kathleen, died of leukaemia in 1987 and the chemo had been gruelling, horrible. Mum was quite adamant she didn't want it and I knew the worst would happen, that we would lose her.”

After being informed of the death of her mother and that he father had been transferred from a psychiatric hospital, where he had been detained after trying to end his own life hospital, to prison, Lesley faced 16 days of silence from David. This was because he could not recall her number and she was forbidden from calling the prison. David had told Lesley that it was her voice keeping him alive. Luckily, said Lesley, Michael Polak got involved and arranged for them to speak.

“It was a game-changer for us,' says Lesley. 'He spoke to the Cypriot High Commission and they sent a consul to visit Dad. Two days later he phoned me. It was amazing to hear his voice.”

Justice Abroads Michael Polak told the Daily Mail that, “David is a model prisoner, however at this stage in his life he needs to be with his family in the UK, not in jail abroad. So we are concentrating on getting the charge reduced to assisting suicide so he can serve a shorter sentence and return home.”

The family is rallying for donations to assist with legal costs to bring David home. To donate please visit - https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/help-bring-david-home/ The family is overwhelmed with the generous donations they have received, and they thank each and everyone who has donated.
